It’s a Race! Or Two! Kinda!

Yes! It’s true!

I’ve got not one but TWO races planned for the next year with my friend, Llisa!

And not just any two races but two fairy themed races.

I swear we didn’t plan it that way. It just happened.

Originally we had talked about doing two half marathons; the Tinker Bell Half Marathon in Disneyland next January (and, really, are you even surprised by this one?) as well as the half as part of the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon, which is happening in October. Later, Llisa discovered the Midsummer’s Night Run, which includes a 15km leg. She tossed the idea at me and I told her I was tossed between the two (obviously not Tinkerbell though because, seriously, DISNEYLAND).

The only really bad thing about races is that registration costs money and sometimes they cost a lot of money. With Tinker Bell obviously being a big financial commitment and this summer already gearing up to be pricy, I decided to stick with the two.

I like the idea of the 15km Midsummer’s Night Run better anyway – after all, if I’m going to travel to the other side of the continent for Tinker Bell it’s kind of nice to know that it’s going to be my first half marathon, y’know? Just keepin’ it magical here, folks.

The good people at runDisney take this stuff seriously so they’ve partnered up with former Olympian, Jeff Galloway to develop training plans for runners of varying degrees of experience. I’ve already gotten started with the To Finish in the Upright Position plan and I’m loving it. It feels good to have a plan to help me prepare for this goal.

What about you? Do you have any races planned for this summer and beyond? Are you running in either of these races (or have you done either of them before?) Tell me all about it in the comments!

Yes! Both Disneyland and Disney World hold a series of different races throughout the year – you can even get a special medal for running a race in each park within the same calendar year!

As for the costumes, I like the way you think. I definitely need to dress up and I’ll start collecting pieces for my costumes and posting what I find asap ;)
