I can’t believe that July is pretty much over. I mean, seriously, summer is basically half over at this point and I hardly know what I have to show for myself.
That is, of course, until I actually look back and realize just how busy and full my days have actually been.
This past weekend I was in Toronto to hang out with my crew (Aside to members of said crew: How come we’ve never come up with a name for our collective selves? Should we? I think so. Let’s put this on our agenda for next time) and to celebrate one friend in particular as she turned the big 3-0. She’s the first of our group to hit this milestone which is both awesome and weird to think about. However, we chose not to get hung-up on the greater implications of our group growing up, looking back on our many years together and forward to the future and instead opted to focus our energies on the celebrating part.
Maybe it’s because this Toronto trip was the last big thing scheduled for the month (and also because the month ends mid-week with a handful of straggler days) but these past couple of days have felt exceptionally restless.
You probably know the feeling – that lull and feeling of purposelessness after the chaos of some kind of event. You spend so much time preparing for something that once it’s over you just don’t know what to do with yourself. And it’s not like I don’t have a ton of things that I could be doing but, I don’t know… It’s just a weird feeling.
A friend recommended that I use these strange limbo-ish days to take some me-time and just embrace the novelty of doing nothing. Except that I don’t know that I’ve ever been that kind of person! I can’t do nothing without feeling ancey. It’s a curse, dear reader.
Still, this too shall pass. After all, August is right around the corner and it’s already shaping up to be a doozy of a blow-out to a busy summer.
What about you? Do you get that restless feeling after big events? Are you they type who can’t do nothing or are you totally cool with taking advantage of the down time? What do you have planned for what’s left of the summer? Let me know in the comments!
