I may or may not have taken a nasty spill yesterday, spent my evening in the hospital and will now be in a shoulder sling for a few weeks…

It has been over half a year since the last time I logged into Wordpress, let alone since the last time I posted anything. It wasn’t a conscious decision to stop writing, and whenever I thought about getting back into it I let the pressure of coming back with a bang get to me.
But, like anything else worth doing, if you wait until you’re ready, you’ll never start. So here I am.
At the end of May I turned the big 3-0. I’m 30, guys. My twenties are dead.
By now I’ve got a few weeks of experience under my belt, which obviously means I’m ready to make judgements on this new era of my life. And so, without further ado, here are some thoughts about being 30.
I decided to give myself a month. A month to settle in; get familiar with our new home, my new job and the people around me. A month seemed like a good amount of time to get my bearings before sitting down to write anything about my new life here in Jasper.
The move is literally just days away. My final grades have been submitted. I’ve completed a 34 page document outlining the basic daily roles and responsibilities of my job. We’ve started packing and, somehow, I’m getting to the end of my goodbyes.
And holy damn, do I ever hate goodbyes.
But as hard as they’ve been, getting to say goodbye has inadvertently lead to something amazing.
I didn’t mean to go A.W.O.L. but I’ve been a little distracted lately and I’ve alway had such a hard time writing about anything else when there’s only one thing really dominating my thoughts (and this is especially true when I kind of have to keep that one thing a secret for a little while.)
But the time for needing to keep things on the down-low has passed and, seeing as people are already finding out “through the grapevine”, now is as good a time as any to come clean…
Fun fact: Jasper the dog came into my life the summer I graduated from university. That means he’s been my constant companion for almost 7 amazing and crazy years. Today my not-so-little April Fool turns 49 (in dog years).
A semi-regular collection of photos that re-cap my week. This week includes a check-in on Hastings the cat and some relish vegan tacos courtesy of Thug Kitchen.
Fun fact: I’ve been writing here at They Call it Gumption for over five years and in that time I’ve only given the blog a makeover three times. Seriously.
So with that said, what do you think of Gumption 3.0?
Most couples I know have those things that are distinctly theirs; jokes, songs, traditions, etc. High up on our list of “us” things is the movie, “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty”. So I made a cake.
